Work and Holiday Visa in Australia

Australia’s Work and Holiday Visa (Subclass 462) offers young adults aged 18 to 30 the exciting opportunity to live, work, and travel across Australia for up to 12 months. Designed as a cultural exchange program, this visa allows diploma or degree holders to engage in short-term employment (6 months) and study (up to 4 months), while immersing themselves in Australian life. Popular work sectors include medical, agriculture, hospitality, and tourism, providing valuable international experience and personal growth. With certain conditions met, the visa can be extended for a second or even third year.

For Indian citizens, the application process follows a ballot-based (lottery) system, where selections are made randomly from registered candidates. A valid Indian passport, PAN card (mandatory as national ID), and proof of basic English proficiency are required. The ballot registration fee is AUD 25, and selected candidates proceed to pay the visa application fee of AUD 650. While prior work experience is not required, it is considered an advantage. The registration window is open from 24 June to 15 July 2025.
